
On Saturday 21 October 2017, Brand South Australia is putting a spotlight on local products, services and retailers through I Choose SA Day. The day aims to celebrate all South Australian businesses and empower customers, businesses and suppliers to make this their day to choose local in their purchasing decisions.
Now in its second year, businesses have embraced the I Choose SA campaign, with over 3,400 registered on the I Choose SA Business Directory – a tool for consumers and businesses to find local products, services and suppliers. The community has been behind the campaign since day one, with South Australian’s using the I Choose SA hashtag (#ichoosesa) over 64,000 times in the last year! In addition to the directory, Brand South Australia is working with many partners to help consumers identify local products through the use of campaign material and the State Brand – which acts as an assurance that the product or service supports local jobs.
I Choose SA Day is a chance to celebrate, but also an opportunity to educate the community on the positive impact they can have on the future of our state’s economy. “We’re excited to bring I Choose SA Day back for a second year. South Australian’s really embraced the day in 2016, and we can’t wait to make it bigger and better in 2017,” Brand South Australia CEO Karen Raffen said. “We want all South Australian’s to realise the power they have. If every South Australian household were to spend an extra $2.30 a week on local food and beverages, it could support up to 600 new jobs.”
I Choose SA Day will be activated in a range of locations and ways. This includes Ferment the Festival in Rundle Park, Kadlitpina, where you can purchase your I Choose SA re-usable tote bag for only $5. Plus, win 1 of 100 tote bags filled with great SA products. “We’re thrilled to have I Choose SA on board as a partner for Ferment the Festival,” says Kris Lloyd, Director, Cheesemaker and South Australian Premium Food and Wine Ambassador. “We have so many great SA producers involved in the festival, it is the perfect collaboration to celebrate what our great state has to offer.”
If you’re in the city, you can head to the Adelaide Central Market for live cooking demonstrations with Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis from Sprout (10am & 11.30am), a free market trail activity for kids (9am – 1pm unless sold out prior), a Lake Breeze wines pop-up cellar door (11.30am – 2pm), live music and more.
At Plant 4 Bowden, look out for kids face painting (10am – 1pm), enjoy a live cooking demonstration with Jessie Spiby (10.30am) and pick up an I Choose SA tote bag. Westfield Marion will provide kids cooking classes with Bree May (11am & 1pm), SA product tastings from selected retailers (11am – 3pm) and face painting for kids in their Fresh Food Mall (from 11am). Retailers Foodland, IGA, Coles, On The Run (OTR), BWS, Tony & Marks, Woolworths and Pick a local, Pick SA!
Independent Stores will also be supporting the day with in store signage around local products. Venues and attractions are also getting behind the day including the Adelaide Zoo, Arkaba Hotel, Port Lincoln Hotel, Torrens Arms Hotel and more (see full list below). Premier Jay Weatherill encourages all South Australians to embrace not only the day, but the entire campaign. “It’s great to see I Choose SA Day back for another year,” Premier Weatherill said. “This Saturday, and everyday, I’d like to see everyone taking a moment to think about their purchasing decisions and choosing local wherever possible.” “Buying from SA businesses supports SA jobs and the livelihood of South Australians.”
